Most credit cards provide minimal, if any, travel insurance benefits. Some of the cards we researched that do provide worthwhile travel insurance:
Barclays Red Aviator MasterCard: If a covered trip is cancelled or interrupted due to a covered reason this benefit can reimburse up to $1,500 towards the cost of the trip. Reimbursement is provided for the forfeited, non-refundable, unused payments. Example: if a flight is cancelled due to weather and a traveler needs to make overnight hotel accommodations at his/her own expense, those expenses may be covered.
The Chase Sapphire Card provides significant travel benefits especially in the trip cancellation area. They are explained on page 12 of their benefits booklet.
